Friendship 03:53
You don't know this yet But we will be great friends Yes, it's true Oh, we will be great friends (Great friends! Great friends!!) Let's hang out all the time I've got nothing better to do And so do you, I'm willing to bet Oh, we will be great friends (Great friends! Great friends!!) Let's get to know each other And do lots of things together You're part of my world now, am I in yours? Oh, we will be great friends (Great friends! Great friends!!) So we're now close friends, and it's true! Everything's all shiny and happy I know I'll have someone to count on Cuz we are great friends [INTENTIONALLY INCOMPREHENSIBLE SPOKEN SEGMENT] (I think I've realized something here, folks...) We have spent too much time together You're probably getting tired of me That's alright, I suppose But we're still great friends (Great friends! Great friends!!) Then we will have an argument And I will say something that'll offend you Or possibly do something that'll shock you And then we won't be great friends (Great friends? Great friends?!) I'll just wallow in this moodiness And you can go back to your life We'll stop talking to each other Then we won't be great friends (Great friends! Great friends!!) Two or three or four months later I'll say I'm sorry because I know you won't We can go back to talking to each other And then we will be great friends (That's right!) And then we will be great friends, yeah Then we will be great friends, yeah Then we will be great friends, yeah Then we will be great friends! SPOKEN: Are you with me on this, people?

I wrote this song for you And I hope you'll enjoy it Sure some may not understand But only you should care I wrote this song for you And every word is true I'm sure that I will be yours someday These words are true in what you hear If you don't believe me, then you don't have to listen Though I want to be with you, I couldn't find the words So this is what I did I wrote this song for you And I hope you'll enjoy it Sure some may not understand But only you should care I wrote this song for you, baby And every word is true I'm sure that I will be yours someday And if you ever leave me, baby I don't know what I'd do I'll never be the same without you So don't ever leave me baby, don't ever make me blue Cuz I need you And I wrote this song for you And I hope you'll enjoy it Sure some may not understand But only you should care I wrote this song for you, baby Every word is true I'm sure that I will be yours someday

In the city where the rain never falls A cold air breeze drifted from the mountains The blue skies melded into gray As the fog descended unto this city Every street and every light faded into the haze Creating a beautiful mixture of blues, whites, and oranges And as I stepped out onto the streets I saw the most magnificent visage surround me Oh, how I love the fog Oh, how I love the fog The sunset faded into the night As the fog's grays replaced the stars Spreading its beautiful majesty All over the world for you to see And as for me, well, I Walked around and I breathed deep I took in a rare cold air And wished I had my camera with me Oh, how I love the fog Oh, how I love the fog...

Left and right, up and down Side by side fly the choices of life What one does, what one says What one do's, and what one thinks These constitute the choices of life During every hour of every day The people make their choices You gotta believe what your mind tells you You gotta believe in the ones you trust You gotta believe in the one you love And everything will work out Yes, everything will work out Day and night, surely something Ripples in time, they hang about by the choices of life What one feels, what one acts What one enjoys and what one employs These constitute the choices of life Would you believe them? They know what they're talking about, but I don't know You gotta believe what your mind tells you You gotta believe in the ones you love You gotta believe in the ones you trust And everything will work out Yes, everything will work out Everything will work out Because you made a great choice in life

There was a time when she used to be mine Every day She loved me for the man that I am In a way she was divine This girl was close to me in every way And that's a fact But when she got on that train I knew, yes, I knew I lost something dear And I'm missin' you every day And dreaming of you is all I can do Oh, I never should've let you go No, I should have never let you go In my dreams I kept her alive Forever mine I see her face looking back at me From the other side I ran so far through the clouds To get to her Tried her best to run to me But she disappeared as she was only a dream And I'm missin' you every day And dreaming of you is all I can do No, I never should've let you go No, I should have never let you go We were such good friends You and me, baby From the day we met 'til the day you left What I wouldn't give to be with you again If only this weren't a dream I hope this message gets to you Soon, my love I want to see your face once more time Before I die Cuz I'm missin' you every day And dreaming of you is all I can do No, I never should've let you go No, I should have never let you go, no, no, no I'm missin' you every day And dreaming of you is all I can do No, I never should've let you go No, I should have never let you go No, I should have never let you go No, I should have never let you go No, I should have never let you go

Sometimes it's hard To put a smile on And show the world Everything in yours is fine And if they believe In what you believe Can you really admit to yourself All is well All is well All is well Somedays you're the dog Then you're the hydrant And then life gets boring In just that instant But it's only a funk No way around it Today you can proclaim All is well All is well All is well Can you believe Just how far we've gone Can you believe Just where we've all gone Have we changed for the better? Or have we changed for the worse? (But only time will truly tell...) Just don't be a fraud Individualize yourself Love to love It's a hit or miss shot With nothing to lose And everything to gain Open yourself up now and Expose yourself to your world Cuz all is well All is well All is well All is well All is well All is well

about

"STUFF PEOPLE LIKE" was an ever-changing compilation album of songs that I thought people liked during the Great Friends era of Danny V (2009-2012) and sold at plenty of shows performed during that time. It was the main Dan Vallerand album you could get, and many copies were given away for free as well as for whatever money people wanted to donate. The key detail about this was that the first four songs were always the same, and with "Friendship" being the one song people at the Queen Bean Open Mic kept asking for, I figured that would help get this out of my hands and into yours. To sweeten the deal, I stuck in (usually) exclusive songs to fill out the rest of the CD, ranging from one-off rarities to random covers to originals played during the time you got the CD to, ultimately, an easy way to get three of my EPs in full - the 2012 one and both local covers ones, complemented with bonus tracks in between the originals EPs.

This album was finally retired by the end of the 2010s, as I had wanted to move on from this era fully and go do new things. Then the pandemic happened and I forgot how to be a musician for a couple years. Going into 2023, I finally accepted the inevitability of streaming and decided maybe now, 15 years in to my career (hence the "15th anniversary" tag), was the right time to put up one last version of this album. This 2023 version of this certified Modesto classic has the four classics plus a couple of OG bonus tracks from the last version of the album, but, keeping with the theme of "most versions of this album are different", all the songs bar "Friendship" are newly remastered live versions. They are also all previously unreleased except for "Never Should've Let You Go", which has been on SoundCloud for ages. Anyways, as it stands, 11 of the 22 songs in the final original compilation were all covers, and six of those are already on here anyways. It would be less of a legal tangle to release a "Stuff People Like" this way.

Fun fact: the live stuff also features representations of most of the bands I've been a part of - the acoustic duos, the Band of Normal Guys, and Pocket Lint Persuasion!
