about

There are some songs that become too infamous and then people never forget them. "Friendship" is my particular albatross; it's an intentionally saccharine song that addresses the rise and fall of close friendships, but with an offensively repetitive refrain that, in most live versions, will be repeated until you join in. Speaking of that, Solo Bass Jake made it popular by screaming "great friends" in between the verses and it stuck, and he'd goad others into doing so with him for maximum hilarity. This particular version is one of my favorite "golden era" performances of it because both the crowd AND I get heavily into mocking each other - something that I'd eventually kinda wean myself off doing not too long after because I felt this one was being overplayed. As is typical of plenty of performances of this one, I kinda forget some of the lyrics. People still love it anyways, god only knows why.

I still have big plans for this song, and that's why you won't see the original 2009 demo or the 2010 Modesto Sound version on this release.
